Dr. Michel has an invited keynote presentation at the 108th Annual Meeting of the German Branch of the European Optical Society (DGaO):
"The Theory of Light Scattering - From Gustav Mie to Applications in Industrial R&D" (invited keynote presentation H6, June 2 2007, 9:00)
Abstract: In 1908, Gustav Mie published his celebrated "Contributions to the optics of turbid media, particularly of colloidal metal solutions" in the "Annalen der Physik" – a milestone of light scattering theory. From then on, this theory has made significant advances. Modern, increasingly powerful computers allow us to apply it to increasingly complex problems. Accordingly, the modeling of light scattering has found its way into varied application fields in industrial R&D. The presentation illustrates these advances with very diverse application examples. They range from nano-composites to particle sizing, stray light analysis of optical systems, and a realistic modell of human skin. (German)
